(A) A photomicrograph of a colonic biopsy from the patient shows a representative field of sub-epithelial collagen accumulation (blue), mild lymphocytic inflammation of the overlying epithelium, and diffuse chronic inflammation of the lamina propria. (B) An adjacent field in the same biopsy shows similar changes, except the sub-epithelial collagen table is not thickened.
